Holiday Home Camp Alumni Association Newsletter - April 2010

Letter from the President

Holiday Home Camp has been a busy place since the gates closed last September. The interior and exterior of Crane-Max is wearing a new coat of paint thanks to Jim Wilken, board member and Brian Fanning, board president. There is also new landscaping that surrounds Crane-Max. The Dining Room is also sporting a new coat of paint thanks to the camp staff and Brian Fanning. Rick Ackman, board member and owner of Ackman Glass in Wlliams Bay replaced all of the cloudy glass windows in the dining room and upstairs porch in Founder's Hall which once again brings in the spectacular beauty of Geneva Lake into those rooms. Thanks to all who worked so hard on completing these projects.

Aurora George Willaims made available the opportunity for  Holiday Home to take over and manage the OWLS Challenge Course that AGW had built into a profitable program which they had developed over a period of almost 30 years.AGW has changed the focus of their curriculum from Outdoor Education to undergraduate and graduate education progams. Holiday Home now has a oppportunty for making a substanial amount of revenue for taking ownership in facilitating this program. HH has the AGW staff that came with the program and the high and low ropes course at AGW and the low ropes course at HH.

Holiday Home staff is also very busy hiring the summer staff and registering campers for the 123rd summer.  Soon camp will be filled with campers sharing laughter, trust, positive sportsmanship, community living skills, respect for one's self, and positive self-esteem building.  Holiday Home gives at-risk children a respite from the city, gangs, overcrowding, legal and school issues, dysfunctional family situations, and offers them a chance to be part of positive community, living with adults who care for them.  Holiday Home helps unfortunate youth who have so little control over the environment in which they live.

At present Holiday Home has more agencies referring more children to camp for a summer away from issues which they have no control. It is for that reason I ask for your support to send a donation even if it is only a few dollars that will help defray some of the costs enabling children to enjoy the fun of attending Holiday Home Camp this summer.

I hope you will be able to help celebrate Holiday Home's 123rd year by renewing your support and participating in the Spring Alumni Work Weekend, May 22-23, 2010.  Please make an effort to attend for a day or for the weekend.  If you are unable to attend, please consider sending a donation to help a child enjoy two weeks at Camp.  We are hoping the Alumni will be able to Adopt-a-Camper this year for two weeks at a cost of $460.  If each of you could send us a few dollars, we might even be able to sponsor two or three campers.

Holiday Home Camp provides a positive growing and learning experience that many children will not encounter in their entire life.  Camp counselors make a lasting impression on the children with whom they spend the summer.  Become involved with Holiday Home!  I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at the Work Weekend.  Come enjoy the special camaraderie that is ever abundant when people get together at Holiday Home Camp!
